FOURTH QUARTER LETTER
Good Morning to all of you!! April 14, 2020
I am so excited to start the 4th Quarter with you on our new adventure with Algebra on line.
As we start the 4th Quarter, I will be posting all of our 4th Quarter lessons, presentations, notes, and assignments on my Google Classroom. Each of you is very knowledgeable and experienced in using Google Classroom, so this platform is where you will find all of your assignments for my class. There will be opportunities for you to have live instruction for my class every Wednesday between 1 and 4 pm. I will also be holding live Question and Answer sessions, formally known as “Review Sessions”, on the day prior to any quiz or test. I will be holding Office Hours on Monday, Wednesday & Fridays between 10 and 11am, during which I will be available via Remind and email to answer any questions you may have about your homework problems.
Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 from 2-3pm through Google Meet. You will get an invitation to the Google Meet through your PCPS Gmail account. I will also send out a Remind the day before. Please make sure to have all assigned work for up to 4/22 completed and be ready to ask any questions you have. Also, I suggest, if there are specific problems you would like for me to go over, have those picked out ahead of time so we can optimize our time.
It is going to be very important that you check your PCPS Gmail account and our Google Classroom at least once a day, as these will be the primary ways that I will communicate with you during the 4th quarter. Communication is going to be the key to our success during this last quarter of the year and we need to work together better than ever. If you are having trouble with an assignment or accessing information, you need to communicate with me ASAP. As teachers we are being asked to be flexible with time when assigning work, so you will have multiple days to complete assignments once they have been assigned. Do not wait until the due date of the assignment to reach out for clarification on directions or with issues you may have, as you will have plenty of time to ask and receive help prior to the due date.
If you are not sure how to join or use Google Classroom or just need a quick refresher, please take a moment to watch this short video. How to Sign-in to Google Classroom and Access Materials
In closing, please remember that I will have office hours on MWF from 10 – 11 all quarter where I will be available to help you or answer any questions you may have. Please don’t hesitate to email me if you have questions or are not sure what to do.
I am going to try my best to make this 4th Quarter Algebra be as painless as possible. With your help, I am sure we can be successful!
THIRD QUARTER LETTER IS BELOW
This email has information for you related to your 3rd Quarter grades. The 3rd Quarter ended on Friday, March 13. You do have the opportunity to improve your 3rd Quarter grade if you want to. If you wish to improve your grade, you will need to complete the assignments that I have outlined for you. These assignments are listed on my web page under Assignments and called Distance Learning for Algebra I and includes a Radicals Quiz for Algebra II. For Algebra I, please make sure you complete the Log at the bottom of the document. These assignments along with your paper which clearly shows your work will need to be returned to me by Wednesday, April 8, 2020. This work needs to be emailed to me either to my school account or to my Google Classroom.
*Please email me to tell me that you are going to turn-in the required assignments to improve your 3rd quarter grade and to which account you are submitting work .*
If you would like for me to provide you with additional feedback for work you completed between March 16 and March 27, please let me know via email.
REMEMBER --If you are happy with your 3rd Quarter grade, then you do not need to do anything else at this point.
3rd Quarter report cards will be issued on April 17th. The 4th Quarter will start on Wednesday, April 15 and more information will be coming to you soon about assignments and expectations.
Also, please be aware that I will not be holding formal Office hours this week, but I will be available via email all week to help you or answer questions.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me! I know that this is a very stressful time for everyone (including your favorite Algebra teacher) but we should all try to do the best we can and know that this too will pass. Please know that I would much rather be here with you at school and would love to see your smiling faces!!
During the 2 week mandated closure, students can access instructional content for my class from the assignment section on my webpage. On the web page, the class information section will list the class codes for each class by hour along with the Remind code for that class. I will be available to support you with questions via email during my office hours of 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. My school email address is email@example.com.
WELCOME TO MRS. GOODMANS ALGEBRA CLASS
Math is the subject people love to hate. It is a challenge for many, but it is a challenge that can be overcome. I believe that anyone can be successful in math if they are willing to put in the work. It is my opinion that more than any other subject you study, the only way to get good at math is to do math! Those who do the homework will most likely pass the tests! You should expect to have 30 minutes of homework three to four nights each week as well as some longer assignments from time to time. If you have questions, or if you are struggling, please let me know ASAP!!!
As far as calculators go, I highly recommend that all students have their own graphing calculator. The curriculum of most high school math classes (as well as future college classes) will require the use of an advanced level graphing calculator. It is important for students to learn specific skills in class and practice them while doing homework and studying for tests and quizzes. I strongly recommend making an investment in this tool as it will be helpful for many years in your math education. Although there are many approved calculators, we recommended purchasing a TI-84 from Texas Instruments since this is the model that will be used in the classroom.
A bad attitude about MATH is like a flat tire….you can’t go anywhere until you change it!!
I am committed to your success, and I BELIEVE IN YOU! Together we will be successful this year!
