    K-8th Grade Remedial Summer School Program

    Kindergarten through eighth grade students may be recommended for the summer program under the following circumstances:

    Be reading below grade level or be in danger of not passing English/Reading or math for the year;

    • Be in need of summer remediation to sharpen and/or maintain skills;
    • Have low performance on current or previous Standard of Learning (SOL) or other assessments; or
    • Be recommended by his/her teacher.

    The emphasis of the Summer School program will be on reinforcing those skills necessary for school success and on the mastery of the Virginia Standards of Learning. Some students who participate in Summer School may have passed their Standards of Learning Assessment, but still need additional time to master or reinforce concepts.  These skills will be necessary to make the transition to the next grade level. Your child’s daily attendance will be mandatory to accomplish those goals.  There is no tuition charged for the kindergarten through 8th grade Summer School Remedial program when students are recommended by the school for participation.
