  • The 3rd Quarter ended on March 13. Students have the opportunity to improve their grade if they wish by following the instructions provided and reading the email that was sent to students on their school Gmail account on Monday, March 30. If you are happy with your 3rd Quarter grade, then you need to take no additional action at this time. Information about 4th Quarter assignments will be coming to you soon.

  • Biology students in my class will have the following options (if they choose) to improve their quarter 3 grades:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      1.  Any assignment that is marked EXEMPT in the grade book with the comment "pandemic exemption" and currently has no grade attached, may be made up and turned in to replace the exemption.  Only assignments that have this comment (pandemic exemption) can be made up.  The assignment, of course, will only replace the exemption if it raises the quarter's overall grade.  You will have until April 8th to complete these but if interested in having these count, you must notify me by email before April 1st.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              2.  The assignments that were given via Google classroom labeled Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, and Day 8 can be completed for credit.  ALL six (6) days must be completed in order for this to count towards your quarter 3 grade.  This is not an opportunity for you to choose which assignment you wish to do, but rather an opportunity to demonstrate that you put forth the effort to complete all written assignments during the first 2 weeks of school closure.  You will have until April 8th to complete these but if interested in having these count, you must notify me by email before April 1st.
  • Genetics students will have the following options (if they choose) to inprove their quarter 3 grades:

    1.  Any assignment that is marked in the grade book with the comment "pandemic exemption" and currently has no grade attached, may be made up and turned in to replace the exemption.  Only assignments that have this comment (pandemic exemption) can be made up.  The assignment, of course, will only replace the exemption if it raises the quarter's overall grade.  You will have until April 8th to complete these but if interested in having these count, you must notify me by email before April 1st.

    2.  The assignments that were given via Google classroom labeled Day 2, Day 3, Day 4 , Day 6,  and Day 8 can be completed for credit.  ALL five (5) days must be completed in order for this to count towards your quarter 3 grade.

Welcome Honors Biology/Anatomy/Genetics students!

What a fantastic year we have in store for us!

Although a recent transplant from Colorado, I am quite familiar with Poquoson High School.  Born and raised in Newport News, I have always admired the community of Poquoson, including its wonderful support of education.  PHS is truly a family, and I know that this year we will embrace all that it has to offer together.

As a native Virginian, I attended the University of Mary Washington where I majored in Biology.  Soon after graduation I married my best friend, an Air Force Academy graduate, and we embarked on a life in the military.  I received my teaching certification after studying education at San Jose State University.  I've taught in Texas, Utah, and most recently, in Colorado.

I am excited to start my fifth year here at PHS!  I can't wait to get to know each and every one of you, and look forward to a fun, interactive, and inspiring school year!

Philosophy:  It is my job as an educator to furnish opportunities for all children to aspire to new heights as students of science.
