IMPORTANT ANNOUCEMENT (NEW - As of March 30, 2020)

Dear Students & Parent/Guardians,

This email has information for you related to your 3rd Quarter grades. The 3rd Quarter ended on Friday, March 13. You do have the opportunity to improve your 3rd Quarter grade if you want to. These assignments will need to be returned to me by Wednesday, April 8, 2020. Directions on how to submit your assignments are included in my instructions. Please continue to look at my teacher website for any and all new information and assignments.

*Please email me to tell me that you are going to turn-in the required assignments to improve your 3rd quarter grade.*

If you would like for me to provide you with additional feedback for work you completed between March 16 and March 27, please let me know via email.

If you are happy with your 3rd Quarter grade, then you do not need to do anything else at this point.
3rd Quarter report cards will be issued on April 17th. The 4th Quarter will start on Wednesday, April 15 and more information will be coming to you soon about assignments and expectations.

In order to improve your grade from the 3rd Quarter, please follow these instructions:

1. You must email me and inform me that you are going to be attempting to improve your 3rd Quarter grade
2. You must complete one activity from the "Choice Board" in the "Assignments" from your class section on my school website. You can also attempt to complete one of the workouts that are posted on several social media platforms (see below for more information). Upon completion of the assignment, you must complete the three questions that are on the top of the assignment in COMPLETE SENTENCES!!!
3. If you complete the activity AND answer the questions in COMPLETE SENTENCES, I will change one (1) participation grade from the 3rd Quarter to a 100%. This grade can improve a grade from a class in which you didn't earn a 100% due to not changing out, not following instructions, not participation the best of your ability, etc. You can do this multiple times but the activity must change each time (for example, you can't just keeping choose to do chores around the house for each assignment).
4. These assignments must be emailed to me at zachary.baker@poquoson.k12.va.us OR zachary.baker@poquoson.org.

I miss all of my students and I look forward to seeing you all very soon. In the meantime, I continue to post important Health & Physical Education related material, as well as workout/warm-up videos on various social media platforms. Check them out and try to complete them. If you can, send me a picture or a video of you doing various physical activities while you're home.

Health & Physical Education Class

Welcome back! I’m so excited to begin the 2019-2020 school year!!

In Physical Education class we will be participating in various sports including, but not limited to, football, basketball, volleyball, hockey, softball, soccer, etc. We’ll also dive right into cooperative learning activities, as well as our “Backyard Recreational Games” unit. Physical fitness will be stressed throughout the year by participating in the “Bull Fitness Challenge” and the FITNESSGRAM physical fitness assessments.

In Health Education, students will be involved in learning about their overall health (physical, mental/emotional, and social), the dangers of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol and the various body systems. At the end of the year, students will also participate in Family Life Education, a unit which will cover important issues facing modern teens and provide reinforcement to enable students to make good life affirming decisions.

Check me out on social media to stay engaged with various Health & Physical Education related information and material. If you can, send me a picture or a video of you doing various physical activity while your home.

Why Did I Become a Health & Physical Education Teacher?

Playing sports my whole life allowed me to see the importance of physical activity and exercise in our daily lives. Being physically active allows use to be more successful as opposed to living a sedentary lifestyle. It helps us be better students, full of energy, motivated, better teammates, etc. My goal is to teach all of my students the importance of creating healthy habits now when it comes to physical activity and nutrition so that they can live a long and healthy life and understand out to take care of their body as they age.
