    Spring Break Vacation

This Project Based Learning (PBL) assignment will demonstrate your budget preparation skills as you plan a Spring Break Vacation. You can travel frugally or lavishly. You can travel within the U. S. A. or anywhere in the world. You may work individually, with a partner or on a team. You must travel at least 120 miles away from Poquoson, VA.

*****You must leave on Saturday, March 30 and return on Saturday, April 6, 2019.*****

This presentation project is worth 100 points representing the following categories:

Preliminary Planning Session 10 points:  List the name or names of the team members traveling. Record the location you have chosen for the vacation. How or why did you choose this location? (Rock, paper, scissors; you’ve always wanted to go there; it’s your favorite place, drew straws, put destinations in a hat and drew etc.)

Transportation 20 points:  Describe your mode of transportation, realizing you may utilize multiple modes of transportation - car, plane, train, boat or cruise ship. Provide all the details regarding the transportation costs to and from your vacation: gas expense, mileage, personal car or rental car; flight expense, times of departures and arrivals, carrier; airport used, cruise ship name/company etc.

Lodging 20 points: Describe where you will stay while on this Spring Break Vacation, again there may be multiple lodging locations during your vacation – campsite, hotel, at a family member’s house, cabin, or renting a house. Let me know what time you can check in, how much per night and the total amount spent on lodging; and provide a description of the amenities of your accommodations.

Meals 20 points: Account for all meals while on vacation. You may choose to eat out or you may have the ability to grocery shop and prepare your meals where you are lodging or as a guest in a home, you may eat some or all of meals for free.

Entertainment/Activities 10 points: You must attend at least two events that will provide you entertainment. Examples include a concert, movie, amusement park, play, swimming with the dolphins, etc.

You must also participate in at least one activity within in the community, athletic or participate in some way. Examples include a nature walk at a public park, running a marathon, playing soccer in the park with local people, bicycling as means of touring the community, shopping at a local farmer’s market, touring a museum or place of historical significance to that community etc.

Supplies/Souvenirs 10 points: The supplies must include at least 3 items that you will need to purchase for your trip. Examples include: clothes, shoes, toiletries, travel pillow, etc.

You must purchase at least 1 souvenir from the place you vacationed. Explain the item, the price and include a picture of the item, if possible.

Project Reflection Session 10 points: Record how you felt about choosing a vacation location. Tell me if you enjoyed planning the categories above or which one made you anxious. Which category seemed the hardest to budget for? Given all of the information you have compiled, do you think this vacation is a reasonable goal for Spring Break 2019? After you gathered your figures, did you change some of them, allowing more or less money – if so tell me about those changes and your reasoning behind making the changes.

1st Deadline: By the end of your class on Friday, 12/14, I need to know who is traveling and your destination.

2nd Deadline: Friday, 1/11, practice presentation sessions in the library.

3rd Deadline: Thursday, 1/31, practice presentation sessions in the library.
