Rising 7th Grade Tdap Booster Vaccination Requirements
IMPORTANT: Tdap Booster Vaccination Requirements
Virginia law requires that all students entering seventh-grade have a tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) booster immunization prior to entry into school. All rising 7th grade students are required to have written documentation of this booster prior to the first day of school. No student will be permitted to begin the school year without receiving the Tdap vaccine.
You can get the booster from your child’s physician or, if military, the military shot clinic. Additionally, you can get the shot for free from the Virginia Department of Health:
Peninsula Health Center
416 J. Clyde Morris Boulevard
Newport News, VA 23601
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8-10:30 am and 1-3:30 pm
Wednesday afternoons only from 1 - 3:30 pm
Not open on Wednesday mornings for vaccinations
No appointment is necessary
As soon as your child receives this vaccination, please bring the written documentation to Mrs. Locher, School Nurse at Poquoson Middle School for entry into your child’s record. You may fax or email documentation to Poquoson Middle School – see contact information below. If you have further questions, please contact your child’s physician or the VDH Immunization Clinic at (757) 594-7410.
We will be tracking compliance with this state requirement. Students who do not meet the requirement by the first day of school in September will be excluded from school until proof of the booster shot is taken to the school nurse.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
