Email to Students and Parents/Guardians Regarding 4th Quarter at PMS

Hey everyone!! Mr. Baker checking in with you to give you some information regarding the 4th Quarter. I hope you’re all well and being safe, while also being physically active daily. I can’t wait to see you guys in a couple of days (Google Meet) and I look forward to hearing from you all about how active you’ve been while home.

As we start the 4th Quarter, I will be posting all of our 4th Quarter lessons, presentations, notes, and assignments on my Google Classroom. An email has been sent to your PCPS GMail account with an invite to join our Google Classroom. Please make sure that you have accepted the invite, if you haven’t done so already.

When we have live instructional sessions or small group meetings, they will be between 12:00pm (Noon) and 1:30pm on Mondays only. The times that students are required to attend the Google Meet “check-ins” are as follows:

1st Period (8th Grade): 12:00pm-12:15pm

2nd Period (6th Grade): 12:15pm-12:30pm

3rd Period (8th Grade): 12:30pm-12:45pm

5th Period (7th Grade): 12:45pm-1:00pm

6th Period (6th Grade): 1:00pm-1:15pm

7th Period (7th Grade): 1:15pm-1:30pm

Our first meeting will be on Monday, April 20th (look at what time your class is meeting) through Google Meet. You will get an invitation to the Google Meet through your PCPS GMail account. Please make sure that you check your PCPS GMail account each Monday morning for the invite to join the Google Meet “check-in.”

It is going to be very important that you check your PCPS GMail account and our Google Classroom at least once a day as these will be the primary ways that I will communicate with you during the 4th quarter.

More information regarding assignments (what are they, and where to find them) can be found on my teacher website that can be reached by going to the Poquoson Middle School website and searching Zachary Baker in the “Faculty & Staff” tab. The link to my website is as follows:

If you are not sure how to join or use Google Classroom or just need a quick refresher, please take a moment to watch this short video. How to Sign-in to Google Classroom and Access Materials

I will have office hours all quarter where I will be available to help you or answer any questions you may have. I always have my computer and/or my cell phone near me throughout the day so please feel free to contact me between the hours of 8:00am - 7:00pm Monday through Friday.

Please don’t hesitate to email me if you have questions or are not sure what to do.

As I stated earlier, I’m excited to see all of you and look forward to hearing from you. I’ve definitely missed all the fun that we would be having in class, but you’re in my class and you know that we are all strong, resilient, and fun especially while we face adversity.

Additional Information Separate from Email

The 4th Quarter will begin this Wednesday, April 15th. Students are required to complete assignments/activities that WILL BE graded and put towards their 4th Quarter grades.

Regarding Health & Physical Education, students will need to complete a minimum of thirteen (13) assignments/activities for the 4th Quarter. Students can complete more than 13 assignments during the quarter, and the teacher will take the thirteen (13) highest grades throughout the quarter.

7th GRADERS ONLY: You HAVE TO complete the rest of the Career Modules that we've been doing every Monday throughout the school year. My class has three (3) more modules left to complete, while some students still have to make up the modules that they've missed when they were absent from class. Upon completion of the modules you will earn a 100% TEST GRADE, that will count as 40% of your 4th Quarter grade.

Assignments for the 4th Quarter

"Mind & Body BINGO" is an activity that was created by Mrs. Bunting and has been assigned to the students and placed on Google Classroom. Each Monday at 5:00am a new "Mind & Body BINGO" assignment with the corresponding week will appear. Yes, it is the same board. Students will be required to complete the assignments in a way that creates a "Bingo" scenario. Students will complete these assignments and then answer the questions on the assignment. Each question is worth 2 (or 20%) points for a total of 10 (100%) points per assignment. There will be eight (8) weeks of "Mind & Body BINGO" thus these will count for eight (8) assignments for the 4th Quarter.

Remember: The Google Meet "check-ins" will also count as grades and there will be seven (7) or eight (8) of them, one (1) each week.

If students would like to complete other assignments/activities and/or they want ideas to stay physically active, they can follow, subscribe, and/or just watch various physical activity videos that I've been creating and posting on various social media platforms. These videos can be found on:

Why Did I Become a Health & Physical Education Teacher?

Playing sports my whole life allowed me to see the importance of physical activity and exercise in our daily lives. Being physically active allows use to be more successful as opposed to living a sedentary lifestyle. It helps us be better students, full of energy, motivated, better teammates, etc. My goal is to teach all of my students the importance of creating healthy habits now when it comes to physical activity and nutrition so that they can live a long and healthy life and understand out to take care of their body as they age.
