Mr. Doug Spruill

Mr. Spruill has been the band director at Poquoson High School since 1988. Currently, Mr. Spruill serves as the Fine Arts Department chair at PHS.          Mr. Spruill's teaching assignments include: Percussion, Concert Woodwinds, Concert Brass, Symphonic Woodwinds, and Symphonic Brass.  The Poquoson High School Islander Band program is made up of 100 student musicians in 5 performing ensembles including Marching Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Pep Band.

Mr. Spruill received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Virginia Tech in 1984.  He studied trombone performance with Dr. James Sochinski.  He currently serves as President of the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association.  Mr. Spruill is a past chair of district 8 of VBODA; a member of NAFME, and the Virginia Music Educators Association.  Mr. Spruill is also an active adjudicator and clinician in Virginia and North Carolina. Mr. Spruill resides in York County with his wife Lisa and two children, Tyler and Cassidy.

    I am excited to be starting the 4th Quarter with you! Our class may look a little different than what we are used to, but we will navigate our way through this change together. Here is some information you may find helpful.

    When we have live instructional sessions or small group meetings, they will be on  Thursdays between 2:30 PM amd 4:00 PM.

    It is going to be very important that you check your PCPS GMail account and our Google Classroom at least once a day as these will be the primary ways that I will communicate with you during the 4th quarter.

    I will have office hours all quarter where I will be available to help you or answer any questions you may have between 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM Monday - Friday.
