Mr. Michael Smith
This is Mr. Smith's eighth year teaching in Poquoson City Public Schools and 18th year overall. His teaching experience is quite diverse, having taught elementary and high school grades in Poquoson, Hampton City Schools, and his hometown in Northeast Tennessee. He is a 6th generation educator. At Poquoson High School, Mr. Smith teaches US and VA Government, Economic and Personal Finance, AP European History, and serves as Chair of the Social Studies Department, Administrator Aide, President of the Poquoson Education Association, Voter Registration Sponsor, co-sponsor of the GSA Alliance and Model UN, Mentor Teacher, and Drum Major Coach for PHS Islander Marching Band. He's also a Master Teacher for The College of William and Mary's SURN Novice Teacher Academy, and serves on the Virginia statewide #GoOpenVA Content Acquisition Committee. In 2017, the teachers of Poquoson High School elected Mr. Smith as Teacher of the Year. Mr. Smith enjoys kayaking, studying history and current events, watching Boston Red Sox baseball and Denver Broncos football, walking around Colonial Williamsburg, a good ghost story, and loves spending time with his wife, 11 year old son, and 9 year old daughter.
