Mr. Michael Smith

This is Mr. Smith's seventh year teaching in Poquoson City Public Schools. His teaching experience is quite diverse, having taught elementary and high school grades in Poquoson, Hampton City Schools, and his hometown in Northeast Tennessee. He is a 6th generation educator, graduating from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, and also earning a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from The George Washington University. He is Virginia certified to teach PreK-6, History and Social Sciences 7-12, and work as an administrator PreK-12. At Poquoson High School, Mr. Smith teaches Economic and Personal Finance, AP European History, and serves as Chair of the Social Studies Department, Vice-President of the Poquoson Education Association, co-sponsor of the GSA Alliance, and Drum Major Coach for PHS Islander Marching Band. In 2017, the teachers of Poquoson High School elected Mr. Smith as Teacher of the Year. Mr. Smith enjoys kayaking, studying history and current events, walking around Colonial Williamsburg, a good ghost story, and loves spending time with his wife, 10 year old son, and 8 year old daughter.
