Holocaust Writing Contest

Poquoson Middle School students participated in the United Jewish Community of Virginia Peninsula 17th Annual Holocaust Writing Competition.  They overwhelmingly swept the Middle School category for both Expository and Creative writing.  In the Expository Writing category Grace Vercellone won 1st place; Patrick Nelson won 2nd place and Sophie Young won 3rd place.  In the Creative Writing category Libbie Harper won 1st place; Connor McDaniel won 2nd place and Smitha Manikandan won 3rd place.   This competition was open to the entire peninsula.  Five other middle schools participated.

The students were recently acknowledged at the Tom HaShoah Observance.  They were presented certificates and monetary awards for their writings. Also, our very own Connor McDaniels  was the only student selected to read his essay at the event.
