My name is Mrs. Molly Riser, and I am the new STEM Coordinator for Poquoson City Public Schools.  Throughout our schools our students engage in various instructional STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) lessons, activities and projects that enhance their understanding of these content areas while strengthening their 21st century skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and citizenship.

On Thursday November 15th, 2018 PCPS will be holding a K-12 STEM Night at Poquoson Primary School from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.  At this event several teachers, students and outside vendors will be showcasing STEM activities and projects.  Mad Science of Hampton Roads will be providing booths of science activities for elementary age children, some with take home materials!  Please encourage your family and friends to come and see the exciting activities happening across in our schools.

Throughout the school day on November 15th, students across the division will be listening to guest speakers of various STEM careers, engaging in STEM activities, and attending assemblies put on by Mad Science of Hampton Roads.  These activities will engage students in exciting STEM content as well as inspire curiosity and support the development of 21st century skills. Students will also be engaged and encouraged to explore STEM fields through listening to people in industry share their experiences.

If you are or have been involved in a STEM field and are interested in serving as a guest speaker, please contact me as soon as possible and we may be able to schedule you for activities during the day on November 15th.  If this date does not work for you but you are still interested in partnering with PCPS to enhance our STEM efforts, please contact me.

We hope to see you on November 15th at Poquoson Primary School!
