Poquoson Names New Principal and Assistant Principal

The Poquoson City School Board approved the appointment of Kimberly Gryszko to the position of Principal of Poquoson Primary School at a meeting on Tuesday night.

Mrs. Gryszko served as the Assistant Principal at the school since 2015. She holds an Educational Specialist degree from Old Dominion University and Master’s degree from Bowling Green State University.   As part of her work in Poquoson, Mrs. Gryszko served as the Summer School Coordinator and the Title III Coordinator.  Prior to coming to Poquoson, she was an Elementary New Teacher and Literacy Instructional Coach in Hampton, as well as an Elementary Summer School K-5 Site Coordinator. She also served as a Title I Reading Interventionist and elementary teacher in Hampton and Newport News.

“We are very excited to have Kim as our new Principal,” Dr. Jennifer Parish, Superintendent, said. “Her extensive knowledge of instruction, her experiences and her knowledge of the Poquoson community will be very beneficial as she works with students, staff and parents at Poquoson Primary School in her new role.”

The School Board also approved the appointment of Andrew Roberts as the new Assistant Principal at Poquoson High School. He will replace George Yeager who is retiring after 33 years of service to education.  Mr. Roberts served as an Assistant Principal at Smithfield High School since 2016.  In his role as Assistant Principal he focused on all aspects of building administration to include being the administrator overseeing Career and Technical Education (CTE) and working with teachers to implement project based learning.  He also served as an Administrative Aid during the 2014-2015 school year during which time he handled student discipline and was a member of the school’s threat assessment team. Prior to becoming a school administrator he was a business teacher at Smithfield High School and for Smyth County Public Schools. He holds a Master’s Degree from Old Dominion University.

“We are excited to add an experienced Assistant Principal to our team at Poquoson High School,” said Dr. Michelle Cihak, Principal. “Additionally his expertise in the area of CTE will assist us as we continue to enhance the work we are doing to ensure our students meet the Virginia Profile of a Graduate when they graduate”.
