Although this school year has brought about many unprecedented challenges for students, parents, and staff, our goal in Poquoson City Public Schools remains to provide quality programming for our students in the safest way possible. While school athletics are not immune to these challenges, we are encouraged that we are currently able to provide students with extracurricular opportunities.
However, in order to meet the guidelines and mandates from the VHSL, the Governor of Virginia, the CDC, the VDOE, and the Virginia Department of Health and ensure that necessary health mitigation strategies are followed, our athletic programs will operate in new ways over the coming months.
To date, we have successfully navigated the beginning phases of the return of athletic programs. In light of current capacity restrictions which prevent PCPS from having spectators present for athletic events, school divisions have been challenged to find ways to provide parents, families and community members, the ability to view athletic events remotely.
PCPS is excited to share that we will be live streaming as many home athletic events as possible over the next few months through YouTube. This allows parents, students, staff, and community members to view contests at no cost and in real-time. The first live streamed event will be our home boys’ basketball game against Tabb on Monday, January 11, 2021 (JV begins at 5:30 p.m. and Varsity begins at 7:00 p.m.). There are two ways in which to access PCPS live stream athletic events:
- Navigate to the Poquoson City Public School’s webpage, https://www.poquoson.k12.va.us/, then select Departments and Services, next, select Technology, select PCPS Live Streams, finally, select PHS Sports. This will take you directly to the You Tube link.
- Navigate to https://www.youtube.com and search for “Poquoson Sports Live Stream.”
As with any new endeavor, there may be some technical or other issues that have to be remediated. We ask for your patience in the event of any issues, understanding that we will work as quickly as possible to resolve them. We look forward to watching our students engage in athletic competition and hope that everyone enjoys this remote service! Thank you in advance for cheering on our Bulls as they compete! Go Bulls!
